Actually, it comes out to 5 cents per person. The one-million dollars in taxes did not just come from NYC residents alone, but rather from the whole state, which has a total population of about 20 million.

And look where they are now.

NY state took in about $47.6 billion in personal income tax alone for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. I understand that you are probably not thrilled that one million of your hard-earned tax dollars were used in this way, but that is not a lot of money, relatively speaking.

A million dollars doesn’t exactly sound like a lot of money, especially in Manhattan. I mean, I get that it’s really “the principle of the thing”, but still.
