Because assuming the reason one person can afford health insurance (typically just because of the job they have) and another person cannot is really because the person without insurance is a fool with their money is a bullshit rationalization?

Health insurance premiums frequently cost as much as a new iPhone every month, and that doesn’t even begin to cover the actual medical bills. This is not about personal responsibility, this is about animosity for the poor.

If I had to pay for my health insurance out of pocket, I would not be able to pay any of my other bills whatsoever. I could not pay power. I could not pay rent.

It’s not always that simple though. Perhaps you have a job that requires you to have a smartphone for access to your email. Perhaps you get a smartphone or smaller ipad because you can’t afford a computer.

A smart phone is no longer a luxury item. It’s almost a necessity.

Because not “rising above” has nothing to do with 250 years of slavery, 100 years of segregation, or continuing inequality in public education and systematic and institutionalized racism. I hope you are 15 years old with your idiotic comment.

The only reason non-union employers have similar wages and benefits to union employers is because they have to in order to draw the labor. That’s one of the side perks of unions: They keep other employers honest, too.
