Come on. This is just an incredibly naive opinion.
Come on. This is just an incredibly naive opinion.
That is a great question, why should they have to beg?
A living wage. Your teenager argument is equally moronic and callow. 16 year olds have to go to school full-time, study, and get an education to become productive members of our society. If they also work on the side to earn money, they’re worthy of getting paid as well for an hour of work as the next person doing…
Your statement is really neat and totally anecdotal. Your few jobs per month are about as statistically significant as the worlds fattest purple hippopotamus.
Seriously, this idea that front line workers are not creating enough value for the company is the most infuriating bullshit ever. They are doing ALL of the REAL WORK that makes the money and keeps the business going day-to-day. But yeah, some middle management trust fund kid who was a C student is “worth” six figures…
I worked at a joint similar to McDo. That so called training bs is valid for about a week to a month depending on your range of responsibilities and frequency of your workdays.
But if I am expected to work 8hours a day, 5 days a week for a company that runs a profit, I expect to be payed accordingly.
Luckily I don’t…
In that case working at McDonalds is way harder physically and mentally than many non-service industry jobs. Being a garbageman is statistically more dangerous than being a police officer. Your argument falls apart.
The “it’s just for broke teens” argument also never made sense to me because, you know, who is going to staff those positions when all the broke teenagers are in school? I’ve been a retail manager in a place staffed mostly by college students, and even *that* was a nightmare to keep everything covered, and we were…
Let’s inflation adjust that $4.25 and see what a comparable wage would be today. I bet you it’ll be higher than $8
I fucking hate this GOP “teen job only” bullshit line. It’s completely asinine, ESPECIALLY THESE DAYS, to say only teens should work there, and everyone else just needs to get better jobs.
I’m willing to bet a ton of money you have never been laid off when there were no other decent jobs in your field and been forced…
So you believe that the CEO of McDonald’s performs $8 million worth of work?
I think the point is that 40 hours a week at minimum wage *should be* a living wage. That’s why it was implemented, the entire reason it exists. That’s also exactly what it was until people were somehow convinced they didn’t deserve it.
If you do full set of working hours you should be paid enough to live on, the “no one should have it as a career” is bullshit and you know it
Work is work, you cant just deem that some types of work justify starving the workers. No one working eight hours per day should be starving.
Working in a McDonald’s is not, and should not ever be considered a career.
McDonalds is a great example to defend minimum wage legislation and other work rights enshrined in law.
You’re right.
No. Don’t blame the victim. Do not put this on her. The reason the CEO can party on like a rock star is he trains employees to prey on people. My neighbor, in her 60's is a sweet, widowed, kind human being who was a target for this type of nonsense. The salesman must have sensed her nature and had her thinking he…
And what do you use to check your email when you get home? Something more expensive than a smart phone, I bet.
Who cares? If low income people want a smartphone because it will bring enjoyment to their life, what’s the problem? This entire argument is a straw man created by people (assholes) who love nothing more than to shit on the poor and judge them for having the gall to enjoy some of the niceties in life.
I disagree. As a white-collar middle class American in a tech job...
