I assume he was hoping to get more Republican votes than he did. A lot of states have open primaries, and a lot of Republicans don’t like Trump almost as much as most democrats. Disagree. The deterrent effect of prison (or other corporal punishments) have always been entirely about their brutality. “Time out” is for those who are a lasting threat to society. A stay in a hotel room doesn’t have much deterrent effect, unless it’s one hell of a crappy hotel room.
