The rev match just cuts fuel or raises rpm to match the lower gear per the given speed. I think the clutch has to be engaged. if tapped on the highway it would do nothing as the engine RPM is matching the transmission speed.

Because in many ways by the time this information could be investigated by the buying/merging company reported the proposed deal is already public and one (or both) stock could take a huge hit. Sometimes the buying company needs the deal to go through no matter what is found.

I think some of the drop is due to car lifespan increasing . People either through necisiry or frugalness are holding on to cars longer.

Inflation and increasing complexity. Also longer lower interest loans means you can get more car for the same payment. Thus for many consumers means checking those option boxes

i had been to the mid west a few times and one one trip, had to visit a new supplier. I got on one of those and was completely “WTF is this shit?!?!?!” seeing a car turn across in front of you while doing 60 is odd and discomforting
