Is there a place where we can wager? I have to think that the gods of oxidation have already won this one. I was once young and naïve like you. Bought and worked on many a rust bucket, since those were the “good deals” I could afford. I have since learned. I’ve also missed out on a lot of fun.

How much $$$ are automakers making now? And they want more subsidies?

You say that until you see what your tax bill will be - If you happen to work.

And - what will it be worth in 5 years?

For those too young - in the ‘80s everything was underpowered. And all GM cars had questionable build quality.

When I was in grade school in suburban Detroit, we have “safety patrol” folk. Sixth graders so supervise and keep people in line. For the most part it worked.  Bullying was not a problem. I suspect it would have been worse for Jr high student.

Great article.  We need more of this on Jalopnik!

A sense of Humor. Great to run across.

Journalist used to be worldy.......   Guess them times are gone.

Back in 1981, I bought a used Honda motorcycle with a rebuilt title.  Title was from North Carolina.  I was living in Kansas.  Cycle was cheap and ran well, all I needed for commuting.  When I registered the cycle in Kansas, the new Kansas title was clean.  No salvage.  Not sure Kansas does that anymore.  I think

Infrastructure is now in “crisis” mode.  Which means it will never get fixed.  That way it will continue to be a a talking point.  And a money stream that can be diverted to other local and state boondogles.

Funny how truck nomenclature has gone from numbers to names, Ford F series excepted. I hope that Jeep / Stellantis. Seeming and name change could be done by people that came up with Stellantis, all bets for a good option are off.

Like others, when in high school, when funds were low. In my Mustang II, I could commute to school for 7 days when the gauge read E. Once trid 8 days, didn’t work.

Say what you will about Trump, but when the article quotes - several times - that congress did nothing with anything sent their way, I think you can see where the real roadblock is. And with their infatuation with impeaching an ex-president - can you say waste of time - congress still does not seem to take their job

Doesn’t have to be a Jeep.  Did the same thing back in college (In Kansas not less) with my ‘68 Mustang GT.

Lordy.  Let’s go back to the Gen - U - Whine Naugahyde of the 1960's.  Felt so good on a hot summer day....

Less than a month. Biden will be in charge. Expect things to be different.....

Yes.  Too expensive too.

At this price the car is disposable. Why not? Not a forever car. But, it may turn you off - or on - to BMWs forever.

Since I am constantly amazed at how much $$$ people will spend on SUVs and especially trucks, I can see 50,000 units managable.  I don’t see it as a price issue.  As as to range - David you’re being far to logical.  How many regular Mustangs never get more than 25 miles from home?  If I have this much coin to spend on
