“Fine” Corinthian Leather

I am just fascinated that these little post war beasties and their various one and two cylinder cousins, are the darling of the collector car world. They were built to be the cheapest transportation with a lid that you could buy, and people bought them because they couldn’t afford to buy or run something better.

I have no idea what these should go for, but I do know I don’t want this car from this seller. Wants $80,000 for the car, take a damp rag to the dust and a vacuum to the interior and maybe pull the slurpee cup out Playa.

Looking at the pictures in the article thought it was pretty intriguing, went to the website to look at the detailed pics. Holy crap, I know it is twenty years old, but this thing has led a hard life (for a Mercedes).

That is a nice looking truck. Thing is it is still a truck. Would love a truck from this era (and this particular year is nice, with the earlier body style and better engine) but a little, umm, scruffier. I mean, it is nice an all, but I am not going polish on the weekend and admire it’s curves, or put it up n the

Not the most memorable car, but they came in hard with the bird association.

Thanks, absolutely needed to be in the list.

No dice with the slush box, if it had the five speed...it wouldn’t have survived as the five speed is a popular choice for giving Austin Healey Sprites and Midgets a five speed conversion and proper highway gear, and they are pretty much unobtanium these days.

Join the BMW 2002 FAQ forum, lots of knowledge there, but ignore the crusty, "search the archives" on every question guys.

Only thing I forgot to add is these older BMWs can be an ok deal if you do your own work. My brother has had somewhere between a 5-10 older 3 and 5 series. He has a lot more repair stories than I have for my Lexus IS300, but if you do it yourself and stay on top of known issues like cooling systems, it doesn’t sound

I am sure it needs a lot, don’t forget to replace the guibo (rubber donut thing that does the same job as a u-joint marginally smoother and quieter, with appreciably shorter life).

This has enough new tech to make it a safe and comfortable daily or cruiser. Enough juice and pedals to make it fun, and enough analog buttons to satisfy a Luddite like me, and it still looks like a BMW should, not a bloat d version of what a BMW should look like with a bloated kidney grill. A lot to like here, is it

I was set on a manual, this was about seven years ago, they were hard to find, generally a used, and much more expensive than automatics in much better shape.  I did call one guy with a manual, when I contacted him he bumped the price $1000 over the advertised ask, I tapped out.  Mine had the sticky dash.  I cleaned

I remember seeing these out and about on the street probably late 70s early 80s, including a dark blue car that was regularly street parked on a busy street presumably by an owner living in one of the nearby low rent houses converted to apartments. They weren’t exactly cheap in 45 year old dollars, but the were

I have the twin of the silver IS300 and I love it, best car I have ever owned. Twenty years old and dead solid reliable. In addition to having a nice handling and responsive chassis and rear wheel drive, it has superbly comfortable seats, furnace hat heat that comes up quickly, ice cold air, a nice quiet ride, just a

The first couple generations did have green, including a very nice BRG Special Edition NA (or Limited Edition, don’t remember the exact name). It had tan leather and some special bling.

Saturn Astra, a lot of cars I forget because kind of anonymous, boring mid-size people movers. The Astra is kind of cool looking, saw one on the street and thought, what the heck is that? Cute little car. I don’t think they sold a lot of them.

See also Porsche 968, also on the list (3 liter 4 cylinder)

Yeah, that was my first thought, “tell me the name of something you don’t remember". And yes, you deserved honorable mention if not first place.

And it is spelled with an "i" Infiniti, wouldn't normally be spell check guy, but sort of twists the knife in on the dead and forgotten trope.
