You're correct. Personally I don't think there are any viable DIY standing desks that can adjust to a sitting desk on the fly; true adjustable desks are expensive for a reason.

This is the first reasonable response I've heard to this question. I can certainly see it being helpful for people who, say, use a keyboard with a TV and their lap. But I still find any time I have to type any consistent string of numbers (like when I do my bookkeeping), no number pad is just a killer.

Not entirely relevant, but I really can't understand how anybody who uses an external keyboard can stand to use one without a number pad.
