Oh, man. I love that movie.
Oh, man. I love that movie.
This type of behavior is so familiar to me. I’m white / female, btw, with mental illness. I was forced to stay overnight in a tiny psych ward with the guy who’d just recently raped me because they didn’t believe me when I told them who he was, screamed about it, cried, tried to leave.
I’m reading Imajica and it’s the first book in a long time where I’ve stopped reading and started seeing the story! Clive is an excellent author; I can’t wait to read Weaveworld!
“Ask anyone in this administration if they think abuse of a woman is ok...”
Hey. Not all of Massachusetts is Ben Affeck... or Boston.
Sooo, reading this today, do you still think it was out of character?
It’s not his “impulse control” if he was planning these things in advance over and over. And how is doing what they did less understandable in any way than what he did? It’s all terrible, reprehensible behavior that went on for a long time.
Twists at the end don’t usually appear in descriptions or trailers, though. I really hate it when people spoil twists, even if the movie is 50 years old... ugh 😑 good thing I’ve already seen that one.
Interesting! I like this theory. So that’s why she was “trying to find” Bobby.
Lol, the Maine comment 😂 I made that same comment. It’s Maine, sooo I wouldn’t expect Stephen King to be the wokest “voice” of the black experience anytime soon.
Carrie (or Sue) is an interesting female protagonist... has anyone read The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon? The little girl in that was well-written, I thought. Also, Rose Madder.
OP - Maybe you *should* go check out the board at SK.com. Or are you only ever comfortable with your own opinions?
He’s actually really, really nice. At least he was to me, a random fan. Shook my hand kindly, talked, had a drink, had my picture taken with him. Just an all-around, super nice guy. And this was after we were told not to approach him before a lecture he was giving. He was so kind & so happy to meet a fan. That’s…
That’s what gets me - the people commenting that it was a “gangbang / orgy” about Ben “getting the guys off” - that says a lot more to me about the commenters and their attitudes toward sex than King’s intentions.
The boogeyman. That’s one of the only King stories to legitimately scare the crap out of me.
“He’s got a real problem writing PoC”
An excuse? An excuse for what?
There’s a rape scene in a FICTIONAL STORY he wrote. That does not mean he “must be into some fucked-up shit”. Can people really not tell the difference between the writer and his work? He MAKES THINGS UP. It’s his job, you idiots.
He’s a fiction writer... seriously, wtf is wrong with people?? He has ideas. He writes them down. His stories are always fantastical. It really upsets me seeing so many people insulting him & acting like he’s some huge pervert because of this one part of one book. It’s not an instruction manual. It’s not telling…
“And yet, 31 years later, it’s still completely bonkers that this ever made it into print.” Uh... why? This is the story that he decided to write. Are we going to burn books now because they make us uncomfortable? He writes crazy stories, so what??
