Poor ghosts should know that grad students and other university employees are often treated badly enough as it is. ; )

NOPE especially since you said food stiffs hahahahahahhahahaa

I like clam bake because it sounds like weed is involved.

A.K.A. The only woman that actually might have been good for Don (and perhaps even vice versa? I mean probably not).

This is very Dr Faye from Mad Men!

Sorta related. I actually started wearing a fake about three years ago. Partly, it was working in sales/hospitality, and not wanting people to interpret my friendliness as anything more than that.* But I did notice the way I was treated changed — particularly by people who were older than I was. I got “sweetie”d and

not that this is appropriate for children, but i sorta wish i could point to this when #kidsthesedays get all whiny about having to write a book report or whatever. “look, look! this is how good you might be someday if you gave this writing thing a fair shot.”

A friend of mine went to Tulane. Same deal with her sorority. Since it was New Orleans, the myth was further embellished with references to the Napoleonic Code that supposedly governed NoLa back in the day. But now that I think of it, is that even historically accurate? French law, sure, but the Louisiana Purchase

Liked the article. Bundy got/gets a lot of attention because many of his female victims were white, I think, and conventionally good-looking girl nextdoor types. Compare that to Gary Ridgeway, who killed far more women than Bundy, but most were prostitutes and black. It took much longer to catch him, because such

Same, not at FSU though. Not always enforced for long term boyfriends that everyone was familiar with, but something we adhered to surprisingly seriously (given that we were otherwise a pretty “fun” group).

Debaro sucksssss he even said he liked phish on the Beyoncé biography article

Same here - no men in the Chi O house except male relatives (and you had to yell “Man on the Hall”), and even then you had to let the other sisters know in advance, and usually only on moving day. This was at a small women’s college in North Georgia, which did allow boyfriends in the dorms.

Everyone should avoid Debaro down below as well. Debaro is a kind of tomato, so that tells you who we are actually dealing with.

Same. Chi O at U of Wyoming. Also no wearing letters out to bars or any place someone nefarious could follow you home.

I was a Chi O. We weren’t allowed to have men upstairs at all, except for half an hour before a social event, supposedly because of Ted Bundy.

I always look forward to these threads every year, and every single year I read them until far too late at night and spend most of the week on very little sleep. When will I ever learn! I love a good ghost story though, and I swear this story is true. Honor system! (it’s not fun if it’s not true)

My spouse was telling me once about a white disembodied hand that would lurk under his bed. It would come out every once in a while at night and scare the shit out of him. He never mentioned it to his siblings when they were kids.

I can’t remember if I’ve shared this before, and it doesn’t come close to competing with some of these skin-crawlers, but here you go—

This actually isn’t a particularly scary story, but it’s appropriate for this post about spooky occurrences.

This is nowhere near as scary as either of the classics listed above, but I had two haunted workplaces, back-to-back.

1. Ten years ago, I was working as an English language TA at a school in Germany. The town itself had been built on top of a Roman cemetery, there was a very old cemetery right next to the school, and
