Ginger Is A Construct

I am not remotely surprised. While I was in grad school the professor of my grad seminar on American women’s history had the whole class to our home for dinner. The class was mostly women (because only women need to know about women’s history, massive eyeroll) and to a woman almost all of us had owned an American Girl

As a new mom who has faced a lot of challenges with a preemie baby it meant a LOT to me to read Chrissy Teigan’s essay about post-partum depression. It was as helpful to see parts of her experience that I could relate to and parts that made me realize that I am dealing with some obstacles, but I do NOT have PPD.

That’s the scary thing about signs in public places warning against doing things that should be common sense: it means multiple people have demonstrated that lack of common sense / respect for the social contract. See also: the hardware store near my house that has tons of signs in the parking lot warning people not

Oh man, I hope it is going well for you, nursing is NOT easy!

Seth Rogen is in it?!? Man, I do need a re-watch!

People are trash. Meanwhile I’m picking up other people’s towels and putting them in the bin so the cleaning staff doesn’t think we’re all monsters.

Also, why would one of them do this topless? Just hanging out next to the sinks by the toilets for 30+ minutes, topless? (Confession: I noticed her nipples before I noticed the hair dying, maybe that was part of her plan?)

But have you ever seen anyone dying their hair in a men’s locker room? not once but TWICE I’ve seen it in a women’s gym locker room. It’s such a shitty move, because they obviously choose to do it there so someone else is forced to clean up after them.

Yep, my male SO often mentions the old man balls in gym locker rooms. Honestly I think that’s what he is looking forward to most about growing old.

I’m on maternity leave, so I can’t cancel my classes, nor can I withhold my labor since my labor = breastfeeding my preemie daughter. Instead my vagenda for today includes not buying anything, making a donation to Planned Parenthood, and calling my representatives to yell at them or thank them. And I’m representing by

As new parents of a daughter who might be an only (because this is tough and we both work!) thank you for this post. Your daughter sounds awesome, and y’all sound like great parents. We can’t be with them everywhere, shouldn’t we be raising kids to make good choices when they’re in the world without us, not teaching

Wait, this was real? I saw this news story on Twitter and thought “Sean Spicer was the Easter Bunny” was on par with “Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer” stories. We are seriously through the looking glass and what is even the point of parody anymore?

So so good. I love that the tone manages to be light somehow, despite how dark much of the humor is. It might be the new baby hormones, but I don’t remember laughing this hard at a show in a long time!

Loved this movie, LIVED for the soundtrack. It was great to see siblings play siblings. “How exactly do you suck a fuck?”

It’s totally the point! Because the law is un-en-fucking-forceable! Are you going to look at IDs? Good luck with that, my trans brother now has a driver’s license that lists his gender, not his birth sex. Are you going to ask EVERY citizen to carry around a birth certificate? Will people check genitals at the door?

The focus is always on the imaginary assault of girls.* Meanwhile my (adult) trans brother is legitimately concerned about his safety in bathrooms.

“Not me!” said the flea.

Who hasn’t found themselves thinking lately that laws need to be worded less straight-forwardly, and more like riddles posed by a troll before you can cross their bridge?

It’s almost like politicians shouldn’t be writing legislation about medical practices they know nothing about. I mean, I don’t show up at circuses and tell lion tamers how to do their jobs, anymore than I want them stopping by my classroom with tips on pedagogy.
