I can’t afford these games. They’re like 70 bucks each, but with Gamepass I can play and enjoy them. You can’t do this with PS plus.

If they don’t have launch titles it’s not worth it. Also their retro game selections are lame. Barely any PS1 or PS2 games and don’t get me started on the crappy PS3 streaming. It’s not worth it. Just get PS plus essential so you can pay to get online and get two free games a month. The only reason I sub to gamepass…
No they won’t. And it’s not just about the games. You need PS Plus now to play online.
I doubt it. That would probably be something they’d announce at the same time to offset all the negativity around the price increase.
Fear not, Microsoft will come for you soon. For now, it’s all they have against Sony.
At $120 Premium it was already hard to justify. At $160 it makes pretty much anyone that pays for it a straight up idiot. It pretty much only adds Classics. For $160 you can likely just buy all the ones you want and keep them instead.
Maybe they are planning to start launching their first-party games on Extra/Premium day one? That doesn’t explain the price hike for Essential, though. Honestly, charging $60 a year for multiplayer access and cloud saves was a scam to begin with. Now it’s just an even bigger scam.
Nah, internally they’re thinking that their customers are heavily invested in the platform so they’ll tolerate the price hikes. If a business thinks it can raise prices without losing any meaningful amount of sales, they’ll absolutely do it.
Yeah, I’ve been on Premium since around Christmas of last year and I just have yet to find anything on the Premium tier that makes it worth so much more than the Plus.
That’s fucking bonkers. I’m on the Premium Tier right now because it was on sale and the upgrade from brought it to within a few bucks of Extra. I was on the fence justifying even Extra to myself at the old price.
Serious question: does anybody have an idea of how much it costs for Sony to offer these services?
The “digital future” is just as fucked up as every other future I was looking forward to as a kid.
What do you think online discussions are? What rules of yours does everyone need to follow? Which of your approved expressions are allowed?
This might be the straw that pushes me off of Sony. I let my PSN+ lapse last year and didn’t really miss it at all except for Diablo IV multiplayer (which I can get for free on PC). The fact that they would increase the price like this with absolutely no added value when the competition (albeit at a higher price…
That $160 a year to get the classic games is mental. Thats even more than Amazon Prime and the selection of games isnt that great to begin with.
This is a big L for Sony, imo. They need to up the value of the games they provide over Plus if they’re raising the prices this much.
I was already having trouble justifying my PS Plus Premium sub because I almost never use my PS5 anyway. I actually bought one specifically for PS Plus Extra because I figured it would offer enough games to justify a purchase but it turns out I just don’t really like playing games on console.
I can’t tell you the last time I played one of the free monthly games. I sub entirely because you need it to play online. Is that worth $80 a year to me? I genuinely don’t know. GamePass is a much better value - I actually play several GamePass games - and I’m paid up through 2026.
I’ve stayed at the basic tier when they expanded simply because by the time a hits the service its likely I already own it if I was interested. Gamepass on the other hand has probably saved me tons by not paying extra for day one releases. There are a ton of games on gamepass like Outriders (insert any mediocre game…
I ‘member when you could get a year of PS Plus frequently on-sale on key sites for $30. Those were the days ... and those days were only a few years ago.
Been a subscriber to PS+ ever since it first came out and have been a subscriber to their top tier since they’ve offered tiers and I don’t think I’ve ever once played one of the streaming games or free games offered (I usually have them already or am not interested, though I’ve dutifully claimed them each month)…
