I mean, I do the same thing every time I acquire a fresh tasty baguette. ‘Yall don’t?

i don’t think it’s so much people didn’t think it was in development, it’s that rockstar is very stingy with information so the fact that they’re acknowledging it means that they’re probably getting close to showing it.

Imagine if you had paid into the Star Citizen Kickstarter at 50!

Even at almost 50, you can go out and steal a car tonight. Life isn’t all about videogames. Live a little!

Copyright law is already better in the US. The problem is that in many countries (like Japan) there effectively no such thing as fair use. Owners have all the power.

Yeah but a big reason was that they kept getting copyright struck by toei, they actually lost their entire channel for a little while.

Heck, some official studios like ADV were founded on fansubbing.

Piracy.

And what I’ve learned from toei’s shitty tactics is that it’s ethically fine to steal as much toei owned content as possible.

Equally weird to me that despite this Nintendo is the only company to go to these lengths when many others, from Microsoft on down, don’t just avoid such punitive actions but sometimes even work WITH the modders and creators responsible.

“And just so we can get this on the record, in case you never realised that legal teams work harder than just checking Kotaku once a week, we did not post about this project, nor did we even mention it in passing, and yet Nintendo’s lawyers found it all the same.”

It’s mindblowing how this needs to be said. It’s like

Nintendo is in a unique position where it doesn’t really compete directly with either Sony or Microsoft. Nintendo kind of does it’s own thing with it’s own unique hardware and brand. You buy either a Sony or Xbox/PC to play most titles, and possibly have a Switch on the side.

If they had an editor, then this post about choosing the “skip cutscene” option in a speedrun wouldn’t have been published at all lol

Dilly dally shilly shally, amirite gamers?

Couldn’t have said it better, this is a perfect summary. The buyout is not a reward, it is a means to incentivize people to self-select out, something people rarely do even when they hate everything about their job (and it isn’t always just a money thing, some people just can’t be arsed or don’t like the idea of

>I find it a little strange that the company would compensate people who don’t jive with its outward stance on diversity and inclusion, but I also understand employees needing resources to continue looking for work in the temperamental industry that is video games should their last job not work out for whatever reason

It’s worth noting that in the gaming industry, tons of positions are terminated when a studio/publisher is between games. Most of those are contracted positions, but it happens fairly often to full time employees as well. And likewise, many positions only open up when a developer is past a certain point in a game’s

Depends on if you’re willing to move or not. When a previous company shut down, I had plenty of interest from all around the world (not saying I would’ve got every job, but I’d say I had a good shot at at least a quarter of them), but if you’re unwilling to move, which is likely once your kid is in school, it can take

A lot of people liked Science SARU specifically for their art style. Though with Scott Pilgrim, it’s hard to think that they wouldn’t chibi up their art a bit. Especially with the original creator’s involvement.
