Really good movie, better than I expected. I think that Thor and Rocket are my favorite new duo. This one isn’t trying to be serious and slow-burn like Civil War or Age of Ultron - it’s just an all-out ride.

I think the fact that Black Panther and Spider-Man are the two characters most likely to keep being in films after Avengers 4 (because of BP’s huge success and Spider-Man being built for a long run this time) kind of took the weight out of their deaths for me. In no what do I think that they’re not coming back,…
For my money, having watched the film, it does a terrific job of being as good as it can reasonably be expected to be, even with high standards and it’s way that more than does justice to the character-driven working model of the MCU.
I have a feeling that they kind of did go that route, just without making it obvious in the titles.
I just saw it myself, but it doesn’t seem as though we saw the same film. It was not predictable to me, and there definitely were some consequences.
Same thoughts here. I’m typically a critic of the story and character concessions that the Avengers films make in service of getting everyone onscreen at the same time, and Dowd’s review read reasonably to me yesterday.
I get what you’re saying and agree, but Darth Maul would probably be a better comparison. I’m not much a fan of his, but he’s the one from the prequels who looked cool but didn’t have much characterization good or bad, until the show.
I’m sure that your last paragraph is the actual explanation, but according to the novel Bloodline, Leia founded the Resistance because she became aware of the First Order threat looming on the horizon, but couldn’t trust or convince (I forget) the Republic to militarily counter it.
That’s what I thought when Rebels was announced. I’ll believe that a Star Wars show isn’t centered somehow on Jedi when I see it.
Pine, Plummer, Hemsworth, Lloyd, Pike (character)
I’ve been hoping that Sofia Boutella’s Jayla character from *Beyond* joins the crew. it would be a perfect way to transition easily, given Yelchin’s passing.
Yes.
Averaged to per post, still great.
Ant-Man was the perfect palate-cleanser after Age of Ultron, and it hadn’t occurred to me until reading these comments how yet again, a (from the sound of it) bloated Avengers film will be followed fairly quickly by Ant-Man.
They should call this iteration Fleetwood Mac: Bronco. Because they, uh, bucked Buckingham. Also it sounds really cool. I didn’t sleep well last night.
He cannot win, but there are alternatives to losing...
*agrees in earnest*
In this case, with these ‘Star Wars Stories’ we’ve kinda been sold the idea that they’re one-shots—reinforced by Rogue One, regardless of that cast’s contracts—and this one is called Solo and has had doom and gloom clouding its forecasts for most of the last year. Of all the Star Wars minutiae that makes headlines,…
Black Panther was my mouthwash, but that’s only because I didn’t think I’d be interested in Jumanji. Having finally watched it at home months later, I’d never have dreamed that I’d enjoy it so much more than a Star Wars film. Christmas 2019 is coming up Jumanji for me.
Regardless of Episode IX being the end of a trilogy, I get the feeling that Jumanji 2 generated a lot more forward-enthusiasm than The Last Jedi. The only reason I wouldn’t bet on Jumanji 3 winning this weekend is Star Wars’ built-in audience, for whom opening day (or night) is practically a religious observance.
