Yeah it’s a kind of movie there’s a market for but they are barely making them, or when they do it’s super-sanitized on Hallmark.

We’re headed to where it will soon be able to create lifelike photos and very stylized and polished digital art but one thing I don’t think we’ll see it generate any time soon is flawed but endearing hand-drawn art, like for one example “zine” style illustrations and indie comics from the 90s. Maybe one reaction to…
I hope there is backlash. Maybe imperfect human-created art that has some soul to it will be more appreciated than slick, soulless and too perfect pictures.
Whoever made the call is thinking they saved thousands of dollars and generated in 15 minutes something what would take an artist a week or more. I don’t think some negative backlash in places like this register. Especially if it’s in promo material which is going to be forgotten a week after the movie is release.
I didn’t like the Seinfeld finale because the humor and tone was different than anything else in the show. Seinfeld created its own little universe that worked like a machine and the meta-commentary of the finale took me out of it completely. All I could see was Larry David in the writing room, not these characters…
I never forgot that, but Seinfeld had its own system of morality where these awful people would be punished by the universe for their behavior. It’s not like they were Tony Sopranos who were awful but still kept winning... the show’s humor is built on karmic retribution for these 4 characters’ selfishness.
I can relate. I had a job where I had to wear a demeaning outfit intended to strip away all self-esteem and respect too. It was a McDonalds uniform.
Yeah it’s pretty rare a collectible record is going to be thrown away and even a major label release is going to be pressed in the thousands or tens of thousands. This is a small drop in the bucket compared to, say, the unnecessary amount of food packaging that’s discarded every day, or the packaging in almost any…
Remaking Roadhouse probably got this greenlit but honestly if it was just its own trashy thing about a bouncer in Florida I bet it would be a lot better received.
Roadhouse is gleefully dumb, but it’s also one of the most entertaining movies of the decade. It’s infinitely rewatchable. I doubt this will be.
Ebert wrote Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls so he’d better know about good bad movies.
Does he look like a traditional male lead? His face still looks like a sulking high school kid to me, and it’s jarring to see it on a superhero body. I’ll never not see Donnie Darko in him I guess.
I can kind of understand, because America looms so large and is so familiar in the media all over the world. Also other countries don’t tend to have the same arrogance about their government’s permanence and many can remember actual existential threats like WW2 in living memory. It may be more powerful to set it here…
The most unbelievable aspect to me is the idea a significant number of American minds can be changed by the power of the press and honest reporting. I think we’ve burned that bridge.
They should leave him out of the movie completely and in interviews the director says “we didn’t consider Bill Murray important to the story.” That will mess with him.
Yeah and it could be a looser alliance than the United States, more like the EU/NATO while being distinct countries with different politics. Plus both states have very large Latin populations and Mexico could be allied with them in a civil war. It only seems ridiculous if you’re hung up on politics of the moment.
I could easily see an EU-like alliance between the two and the states around them, their politics differ but they still have military and economic ties. Plus I might assume Mexico factors in as an ally with both.
There’s no bigger injustice in his career than Goodfellas not getting the best picture, it’s one of the best American movies ever made.
Honestly his behavior seems in line with someone who knows the relationship was a huge mistake for both of them but can’t break it off the right way so they blow it up in a manner there’s no coming back from. Which isn’t admirable but I bet half the people passing judgement in this thread have done something similar.
I think he’ll ultimately get off on criminal charges but it’s going to be a big, loud trial getting plenty of attention for the prosecutors.
