Brushes can be sanitized by running through a dishwasher. There’s no need to throw them out.

Sounds like your washer has a build up problem.
Wipe or rinse the dishes, put them in the dishwasher, run when it’s 2/3rds full. We wind up running it every third day unless one of us is cooking.
