Funny you mention this, because while I love diablo-likes, this felt more like a top-down twin-stick shooter and I had the same worry about it as you since I find those less appealing than diablo-likes. But I really like it! As others have said, the world really pulls you in!

Of course it has functionality! Its function is that it makes your face uncomfortable and it limits you vision. Great functionality.
