Is this some kind of existential character bit about obsession? If so, I’m confused who to like less in this scenario.

“I eat up any story about corruption in German industry, because it defies our American vision of Germans as ceaselessly fastidious and purely dedicated to their work. Germans are just as corrupt as the next, and they have better words for it.”

Good timing, I was just taking one last look for the night, ha.

Yeah, I didn’t exactly word the first one right. I was thinking more along the lines of people picking up shifts/assigned flights they (or crew management) know they can’t complete in full, but still get paid anyway for it. I am just basing it of what I know from the railroad.

I’m interested to know what the contract rules are for pay when a crew “times out”. I could totally see United covering their most profitable legs, and leaving a lot of others left out to dry, jacking up a bunch of connecting flights due to work hour limits, but blaming it on Covid.

Not like they are sales behemoths or anything, but Cadillac makes a couple nice rides. Just sayin’.

Thank you. I laughed when I wrote it. Albeit, with a sigh of resignation.

Yeah, it all depends on the system/technology. I’m assuming you are either in a European metro area or somewhere like Japan or Singapore?

Typically the train driver is referred to as an Engineer or a Motorman, or a train operator, or a train driver (ha). That’s (in theory) all they do is operate or “run” the train. The Conductor is in charge of everything else as well as being the “boss” of the Engineer. In some countries it’s different, but generally

Thanks for the attempt at a joke. Nobody is talking about whatever nonsense politics shit you obsess over. There are other things in life.

You are right about a bit of the details of the crash. It’s been some time since I read about it. It was a Benz and not a Lexus (just to be accurate), and yes, she was already beginning to foul the tracks when the gates descended. What is not really talked about all that much is that the bells and lights happen before

Here’s the thing about those gates. They are designed to break-away in case of an emergency. Shit, most of them you can just yank out of the rotating arm mechanism with minimal effort, almost like a Jenga piece.

As the resident ( I think only) actual honest-to-goodness Train Conductor on the Jalop message board, I’ll comment on a few things here:

The problem here is that things have gotten to the point where people attach their identities to whatever politics that is promoted through the most convenient form of mass media available that day, in that format. It’s super unhealthy for anyone’s well-being, and yet...here we are.

Not sure what I think about NFT’s. They don’t make any sense, but people are paying, so I guess? I’ll sit that whole thing out.

Sorry about that, but be warned. Buy 10 of them if you want. It’s not my money. The simple fact is that I don’t think it is a quality product. You do you, though.

Look up what the original Yamaha Wave Runner looked like! It was basically a moped engine embedded inside a fiberglass shell with the capabilities of a plank of plywood. That’s old school! Or, if you are feeling frisky, check out the Yamaha 300x stand-ups from back in the day. Those things would break an ankle of the

They are junk. Trust me when I say that. I’m a pretty experienced boater, but my friends who are the real deal dudes were laughing their asses off when Sea-Doo released that. There is a reason it is a prize on The Price Is Right, along with that shitty Bayliner (or whatever) 16 footer with the 60hp outboard. The

I’m all over this thread, but I am bored.

There is no point in owning one unless you have a dock with a dedicated lift. It’s a sad sight to see someone backing down a public boat launch with a single jet-ski, and then like 3 people get out of the car. That is never a good look. It’s so humiliating that even their shoulders are slumped.
