All the good Jalop writers (+ others) and car enthusiasts have gone over to The Autopian. I check in here from time to time as a litmus test as to how insane the asylum has become.

I agree. I was already waning away from this place b/c The Autopian is a much more entertaing read, so I’ll check in, but I doubt I’ll comment much at all anymore if I’m a “grey.”
Well, it just so happens that Makenzie Scott just gave $112m directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters, which is an amazing cause that I also donate to (not like that though, lol). Seems to be a better use of funds than giving it to the IRS.
You got put in the greys too! haha. Jalop is something else...
Hey, Mercedes! I’m in the greys for some reason. I’ve been around awhile so...huh. Can you spare a little help maybe?
They switch seats.
Just a test to see if I got put in the greys. It happened once (cause kinja) but I haven’t been mean or nasty :)
In theory I can agree. However, the larger problem lies in where that tax money goes. If it was used/distributed effectively I think more of those folks would be happy to pay it.
She’s busy waiting for The Autopian to start making a profit so they can afford her.
As far as WU goes, I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Rosebud Baker go straight from “outta nowhere new writer” to the desk.
The fact that is seems to be a trendy insult most definately is...Isn’t the whole idea of the “American Dream” is to be able to dictate life on one’s own terms, without causing harm to others, and free from over-reaching jurisprudence?
Thanks for the reply!
This is not actually a bad thing. I fail to see how I am “outing” myself.
That’s been happening for decades, if not well over than a century. Nothing new there. Shit, the residents of Yonkers, NY don’t like the noise. They have freight, commuter, the Kawasaki plant, and Amtrak. Yonkers isn’t exactly a “NIMBY” town.
I’m not trying to pick a fight, but are you telling me that a 160 car consist didn’t exist in the 1970's? If so...I disagree on that because worked with guys that ran them.
Long freight consists have been around for a long time, so I’m not sure that it’s any sort of new phenomenon.
You are correct in that crew error in any train involved delay/accident is extremely, extremely rare. Railroad employees take safety very seriously and know that trains are no joke.
Another factor that almost no one outside of train service realizes it that if the train isn’t actively blowing the horn, they can be earily silent if one is in front of direction of travel.
The FRA is actually pretty hardcore when it comes down to it’s actual mandates. Like any other government agency they are reactionary, though. Could they change their recommendations in the future? Sure. They won’t if they don’t have to though (or unless they get sued, which is how it usually happens).
I can’t say for certain, but I highly doubt Brighline is running anything longer than 8-10 cars (including the engines). That would lead to double or triple stops at a platform, and that just takes too long.
