I tend to disagree. Let’s say one is “uber rich” and has two choices:

I never said anything advocating that anyone should “settle” or just remain passive with their respective slot in society. But, more to the point...

And? A lot of people get to do a lot of things that other people can’t, regardless whatever other qualifier you’d care to discuss. This works on multiple levels. That’s all a part of life.

That’s why I am weening off of this place and reading more on The Drive. Hopefully they can poach Tracy, Torch, and Rob and get a bit more of a sense of humor. I do like coming here nowadays, just for the comically misguided takes of the other writers and the people who echo chamber their nonsense. Keeping the enemy

You aren’t “defending” billionaires. This was just classic Shilling, shilling nonsense. It’s ok for you to think rationally without apologizing.

What a bunch of party poopers. No more Queen for you!

Shouldn’t this type of thing fall under the purview of the TSA? I mean...nevermind. I was just being silly there for a second.

3rd: also from Reuters today regarding Cadillac:

Ain’t that the truth. I took Amtrak from Penn to Boston to see the an ALCS game from the Green Monster a few years ago. Including the train/cab to get to Penn (~45 min) and the actual trip (~2:30) it was a gazillion times faster, easier, and more comfortable (bar car and the actual seats)  than doing the airport

They do when they stop drinking, which actually works for my metaphor in explaining why some are so reticent to let the bit go, even though it’s not really enjoyable anymore.

Yard switchers and OTR work engine crews typically never see any passenger duty unless in an emergency, and even then are never in uniform. This is strictly a discussion regarding the NEC, not anything about the rest of the world.

Everything you say is correct in your post, including that Amtrak does not own/maintain a lot of the property they run on. (And yes, there is a lot of the telephone game that occurs on the railroad. No doubt there!)

Exactly. I’d ungrey you if I could, but I think I made Perkins mad for telling him that he needs to separate his personal politics from reviews of a comedy show. It’s like he’s never been to a real comedy club and thinks that Chuck Lorre sitcoms are the bestest.

JFC, you’d think I’d insulted Tesla or Musk or something. Yikes.

I genuinely had no clue where you were going with the weather thing, lol.

I never said anything about other countries. I agree it is a common system. I also agree that Cat wire does allow for higher speeds. I stand by my comment that it is not as dependable in adverse weather, although I will grant you that it surely works well enough in other parts of the world that are better at a lot of

You are right about some stuff and not exactly right on others. The reason Cat wire is used is because it is cheaper to maintain and already in place, rather then convert to 3rd rail. They would if they could because it’s far more reliable for the NE.

Well, as an FRA licensed Conductor that has been qualified on parts of that territory, I am talking about things I know. Do you have any other questions for me?

It’s more than just the tracks that limit speeds. Just as big a factor is the pantograph/catenary system. Cat wires are extremely weather dependent on, well, the weather. Snow, ice, wet falling leaves, and heat all have detrimental effects on a tech that has been around (basically unchanged) for 150 or so years. With

While I agree with you on all you wrote, I think the biggest reason that it’s not funny anymore is because the joke is stale. Even the most voracious “Never Trumpers” can only laugh at the same thing for so long. Sure, he’s still floating around on the periphery of the media/political landscape as much as an former
