I agree, I have 240K on my 96 B5 A4, normal maintenance with the occasional cam seals every 3-4 years. I just follow the service schedule in the back of the owners manual, and I do my own work. For unreliability drama, I just look behind my house at my neighbor with 2 Land Rovers.
