I thought the show, based on the first episode, wasn’t going to be good. It seemed pretty insipid but then it quickly picked up steam and story, and I really like it now. Fellowes is being a lot truer to the era’s societal norms in this show than he ever did with Downton Abbey. This show is no fairytale like DT was.

There has to be a rights issue. Amazon Prime also has Evil Under the Sun but not DOTN in digital.

I own a digital copy just so I can watch it whenever the mood strikes.  Tried to buy a digital copy of 1978 Death on the Nile, but you can’t get one. Settled for the dvd. Still worth.

The very good 1978 adaptation with Peter Ustinov also stays true to that structure.

All I can say is New York may have dodged a bullet when she didn’t win the governorship.

That’s exactly what happened. MPK’s idea was for Miranda to pair up with Nya. Nixon talked him into making it Miranda and Che because Nixon thought it would be sexier (I’m not kidding, it’s in the doc).

Well it turns out that MPK’s idea was to have a Miranda-Nya pair up*, but Cynthia Nixon talked him into changing it to Miranda-Che. So there’s that.

Apparently it was Cynthia Nixon who is responsible for the Miranda-Che pairing (it’s in the documentary). MPK’s idea was for a Miranda-Nya romance but Nixon went to MPK and got him to change it because Nixon thought Miranda-Nya wouldn’t be sexy enough. So yeah note to self: don’t let Cynthia Nixon make storyline

Jean Marsh fired shots at Fellowes and ITV over the blatant rip off of her original show, and it was pretty funny. She pointed out the obvious comparisons and than said “...it might all be coincidence, and I might be the Queen of Belgium.”

The reboot of Upstairs Downstairs was in the works before Downton Abbey but it was hampered by the ill health of both its creators, Eileen Atkins and Jean Marsh. Still the two seasons they managed to make are definitely worth the watch if only for seeing a younger Claire Foy do her usual fantastic job with a role.

Oh how did I miss that info about her.

It did make for a great hate watch. I mean they couldn’t have produced a bigger train wreck if they’d planned it. I suppose because everyone involved with the show seems oblivious to how truly awful it is is probably why it’s such a train wreck success.

People and Huff Post leaked the Variety story yesterday so I knew the finale was going to be garbage. I just watched to see how bad it was. Idk if I’d tune in for a second season because the fascinated-at-watching-a-train-wreck-in-progress aspect just wouldn’t be there. It’s really what made this season such a great

Miranda’s story screams mid life crisis, which would be well worth exploring, but won’t happen.

this last epidose all but took out a full-page ad begging Kim Cattrall to come back.

There are plenty of articles out there about how Covid has complicated shooting and releasing Disney+ Star Wars shows. For example The Mandalorian has had a two year break and didn’t start filming again until late 2021. And Andor is taking forever to get going and apparently will finally premiere mid to late 2022.

Also Covid has fucked with filming.

I don’t get why this isn’t just in Season 3 of the Mandalorian, and why Boba’s story has been sidelined?

What’s going on is they’ve had to piece meal some stuff from 2-3 separate shows because Covid screwed things up.

I don’t think Julian Fellowes is a strong original writer — Downton and Gilded Age “borrow” heavily from already existing works (Upstairs, Downstairs and Edith Wharton). Also I do think Altman definitely had an influence on Gosford Park. It’s just that Gosford Park shows what Fellowes is capable of under the right
