“Above my head” is the problem? Do you have issues doing bench presses or other horizontal pushing exercises? An inability to lift things over your head sounds more like weak shoulders than triceps...

The point you make here is always worth reiterating- deadlifts, squats, etc., WHEN DONE PROPERLY will alleviate pain rather than exacerbate it. Most people are scared of doing these exercises, but if you actually take the time to master them you will almost certainly feel much better than you did before you added them

What an odd position- “I don’t care about how the trope is defined, but you’re dead wrong about claiming that this movie meets the definition!”

Yes, I’ve seen the movie. And thank you- his one character flaw in the film is his reaction to a bad thing that happened years before. So in the movie the only presentation of him beyond essential perfection is caused by his prior imperfection- not exactly an example of an actual character flaw. Sure, the character he

Good lord folks, just google “white savior the last samurai”. Hell, it’s listed on the wikipedia page as one of the examples of the trope. “Saved” doesn’t mean “happily ever after and everything is perfect”. Just do a little research. I understand that you all seem to love this poorly reviewed, domestic box office

*sight* Just do a google search for “white savior last samurai”.

I’m not really sure what the purpose of your response was. Are you trying to simply reaffirm the applicability of what I said previously? You’ve already done that multiple times, so this is just getting redundant.

And did OP say he voted republican? Did he say he voted to take away health care? Again, the discourse has gotten to the point where if someone says anything that can be stretched into an evil statement then it is stretched that far. He didn’t say anything close to approaching the conclusion you drew, but instead of

I was describing the white savior trope. Notice how it was in quotes, clearly indicating that I was describing the trope and not the particular details of the movie?

I have read Shogun. Great book. Being loosely based on it doesn’t make The Last Samurai a better movie.

I’m with you there. While I may hate The Last Samurai, I do have a hard time not enjoying most of Cruise’s other movies, despite the fact he seems like a raving loon in real life.

Lol, but WHY was he an alcoholic fuckup? Because his perfect character was so progressive that he tried to save native americans from slaughter and was unable to do so. His moral character was so perfect that his only “failing” was caused by his moral perfection.

I will agree that Billy Connolly does, as always, kick ass.

Ugh, completely disagree. It’s bad enough that it’s the standard “white man shows up and saves native people by being better at being native than they are” trope we’ve seen so many times, but it also had that thing that Cruise and Mel Gibson excel at where they turn their characters into unimaginably perfect human

“What he did say was that calling for “compromise” ON an issue is often disingenuous and immoral, not to mention callous and out of touch. You cannot, in fact, be bipartisan on the issue of choice, for instance, unless you’re willing to openly admit you don’t care about other people.”

“If your lower taxes and smaller government means I can’t afford my insulin I view you as an extremist. Insulin’s like water. I die if I go without for a few days.”

It’s disappointing to see so many people attacking the examples you gave as opposed to addressing the point you were making. I’d say there are any number of bipartisan proposals on any number of issues that people of different viewpoints could compromise over, and doing so would benefit this country greatly. Just take

As funny as Carlin could be, I really wish that people didn’t actually find him insightful or brilliant. Most of his comments were simplistic nonsense that were clearly refuted by anyone with any knowledge of whatever subject he was railing against that day.
