Sure, that was part of it, but a significant portion of this country sympathized/admired Nazi Germany and thought that Britain was playing dirty tricks by trying to get us involved in a European squabble.

It’s easier when we don’t know this person’s name and won’t have to see any footage of him when he’s 50 years old.

It’s scary how much turned on Churchill being in the right place a the right time. If not for him, I’m just not sure who could have led Britain to stay in the war when it made all the sense in the world for them to make peace while they had the chance. I think the scariest prospect would have made no invasion necessary. Britain makes peace after the battle of France and nominally preserves the Empire while making it subservient to Germany in all other respects.

First of all, “common sense” is a meaningless and wholly subjective term. It’s equivalent to saying “we need more good policy in Washington.” Well, great, but what the hell is that?

It drives me nuts because any attempt to fight Trump via the power of celebrity is doomed from the outset. He’s better at it and his base is more attuned to it than any opposition could ever hope to be.

I’d love to run for that kind of position, to have things be very common sense. There’s so many things this country needs to do that are so obvious.

No one is conflating rape with highly inappropriate sexual relationships in unequal power dynamics except concern trolls. One may recognize that rape is bad and criminal, while simultaneously recognizing that exploiting a power dynamic to have an affair with a much younger subordinate is also bad.
