I was pretty honest that I was engaging in supposition. I think my supposition was on pretty firm ground, however:

First of all, sushi is "trendy?" Is it 1985?

Are our college football players UN ambassadors?

There are plenty of sustainable options for sushi. Not everything is bluefin tuna.

Or here:

Well nobody ever linked to any studies

No problem. We agree that it's bad, which means that it's bad when a scientist does it to dismiss or suppress facts that don't demonstrate the conclusion they wanted to reach, and it's wrong when an internet commentor does it to dismiss studies that don't tell him what he wants to hear.

I'm not sure of your point, because I'm agreeing with you. It is wrong to ignore/dismiss facts that don't agree with your preconceived notions. It is dishonest, and perpetuates ignorance.

If the conclusion isn't what they wanted, they don't release it.

If there's one way to make sure people will take you seriously, it's to say things like "pussification of America" un-ironically.

I'll bet you could fill a barn with the things you are unaware of, but in any event, no one was saying that.

Since that causal relationship is so evident, I'd imagine there are studies which demonstrate this link between corporal punishment and success in life, right?

What do you think that "abusive" behavior is intended to be?

To be fair, that's a funny way of admitting you were wrong.

So the kid had it coming.

Your misreading of what I was actually saying is bad and you should feel bad. I was not implying a causal relationship, I was pointing out why a causal relationship is not supported.

Doesn't sound like you're a great influence if 60% of your closest friends are hopeless druggies. Perhaps you're part of the problem?

Not really into that whole scene, but thanks for the offer anyway.

I am simply pointing out that your assertion that corporal punishment will have no correlation with success may be flawed

1) there is a huge difference between spanking and child abuse.
