No. Unless she is a danger to herself or others, the law clearly states that medical personnel CANNOT disclose her information to law enforcement. If you read the original article, you’d see the charges stem from her having a false social security card that was found on her person AFTER she was arrested.

Hipaa compliant means any staff with access to patient information is the provider’s responsibility. There’s fines and sanctions for both doctors and staff.

All the staff are bound by HIPAA though, from the front desk to filing clerks and everyone in between. Whoever ratted this poor woman out is going to be the subject of what I can only hope is a MASSIVE lawsuit.
