I was being glib. She made a poor decision and from every bit of reporting I've seen she didn't explore any other options at all. No, I don't think she actually deserves jail time.

I've never heard of any hospital that won't put you on a payment plan much less an abortion clinic. Given the number of poor women in need of abortion services, it's completely common for this to be the case. Unless this clinic was the exception, she could have entered into a payment plan with the facility.

Why are there people still without insurance at this point? Real question.

You're right, an hour's drive to the nearest clinic is WAY more time than sitting around while your abortion pill of dubious quality and ingredients is shipped from somewhere on the other side of the world.
