Nexon has ruined great game design before with loot boxes, even killed thriving games with really bad pay to win mechanics. Here’s someone with brains gets ahold of FWTR base game.

I hope you’re right on the latter stuff. I don’t want to throw the league off a cliff or anything. Not really buying the age thing though. This dude is 21, xQc is 22, and Taimou is 24, just to run through some of the people making bad headlines. That’s older than most NBA rookies, about the same as a lot of NFL…
The average age of esports players is a several years younger than traditional athletes. They’re children who went from being Twitch streamers to MLG pros overnight. I’m not saying that to defend their behavior, only explain it.
It’s called going to Gel/Danbooru and just hitting search. Or any porn site. But that just does not seem challenging enough.
I would play a game that was sex and loot boxes. Most of the games I play that are free to play are pretty much played because of the cute/sexy game art, so if we can cut out the middle man and just make lootboxes I open every day in the chance of seeing something naughty, it would save me a surprising amount of time.
Three game companies—including online giants Nexon—have been fined almost one million dollars by Korea’s Fair Trade…
Can I just say, as a left-handed individual, I’m glad companies have (mostly) stopped trying to pander with weird reverse controls. The flip function on the Lynx was completely pointless. Left-handed people learn to play video games on the same controllers as everyone else; the assumption that flipping the d-pad and…
There is a hell of a lot of middle ground between “being perfect” and racism, homophobia, and trying to have sex with teenagers. I’m not looking for perfection, I don’t need a league full of people dedicating their lives to charity or whatever. There are just a surprising number of people out of this very small pool…
It’s not really a “normal people” versus “gamer people” conversation, it’s about the inability of professional gamers to be be “professional”. It feels like every single statement defending the players in OWL reads as a “well, other people do stuff too!” argument. Stop playing the whatabout card, and discuss the…
It’s pretty reductive to presume that anyone good enough at video games to be paid for it has no conventional life experience. And it’s not as if “normal” people aren’t also revealed as racists, pedophiles, and assholes on a regular basis.
Queuing for roles is a horrible idea. As “Papa Jeff” said, Overwatch is a game that is very much about the fluidity of character swapping in order to respond to the enemy’s composition. Going into the game with the mindset that you are going to play a single role, and perhaps only a single character within that role,…
One complaint I see is that this system would enforce a meta or specific composition, which I do see as a problem. I’m against anything that reinforces the idea behind metas, as I really hate that any competitive game community falls into this trap. The average player just reads a few popular players’ opinions on the…
Role-queueing also promotes stagnant play and thinking.
Reading the articles can be fun. You should try it some time.
This kills the evolution of the meta.
Not the same my man, if your logged in as a tank you stay as one in WoW, you can’t just join as a tank and then just switch before the map starts which is something I could see a lot of players doing to get in matches faster.
Do you switch from playing a Hunter to playing a Priest in the middle of a dungeon?
This is a seriously massive problem with the idea of role-based queues. Sure, I can pick tank, but tank in what composition? Triple tank? Quad tank? You can’t fragment the queues across current viable metas, and you can’t pick metas today that are viable tomorrow. The Overwatch team likely doesn’t want to control the…
I’ve been against role queing for pretty much the same reasons Kaplan stated. It just isn’t practical in a game where roles are fluid. It also risks higher toxicity in other positions. So if I qued up for tank but I only can play Orisa and Roadhog decently. But let’s say the team needs DVA. All of a sudden I’ll have…
I think another complication is that they’d have to enforce a pre-made composition. 2Tanks, 2 DPS and 2 Supports is a safe comp but isn’t always the best in all situations. So yeah you’d get to play your preferred role but then we’re at the whims of the developers to choose for us what the best composition is.
