If you don’t think rich people, even VERY rich people who control the world, are not miserable and don’t hate themselves then you need to meet more of these people. Some of the most miserable pricks you will find anywhere.

I’m Commander Sheppard and this is my favorite show on the Amazon.
God as my witness, we’re going to replace baby boomers as the dominant force behind culture and entertainment for decades!
Not just Robin Hood, but every movie he’s ever made. Alien is very good, but it’s about as deep as a puddle of that white stuff the robots spit up. He’s never done anything better than that.
“Scott was just on Maron crying about how The Last Duel bombed because millennials can’t get off their phones so he’s in full on crank mode.”
In the middle of a pandemic!
Is it really some shock that nothing is doing “well” this year by historical standards, and the top-grossing movies are all the 27th sequels or spin-offs of recognizable IP, the cinematic equivalent of comfort food?
Nostalgia is a terrible thing.
Am I out of touch because kids don’t want to see a historical epic based on an obscure French incident set against the backdrop of Charles VI and the Caroline War?
That’s funny because I blame Ridley Scott and the fact that he’s been making movies ranging from mid to bad for decades for making his movie a flop.
I felt like Rey did that for a lot of star wars fans, in a way. Because I can’t remember A New Hope beat for beat but watching TFA, I felt like I was on another adventure. But this time, it was a young woman on screen, uninterested in romantic entanglements, lonely, and a little lost. That’s powerful stuff. I would’ve…
That’s why, love him or hate him, I love that Christopher Nolan is out there making ridiculous hundred-million dollar movies not based on previous IPs. They’re uneven and flawed but I have rewatched Tenet more times than any of the MCU movies.
And the thing about fan service is, it does the opposite in the long run. It’s just catering to existing fans, but not creating new ones. I doubt any younger people who didn’t grow up with the Ghostbusters will see this film and think, “Yes, this is the franchise for me!” It will just seem weird and inscrutable, full…
“Also, what in the fuck does giving back to the fans even mean, especially with Ghostbusters? It was a a strange and silly horror-comedy that already had a sequel WITH THE ORIGINAL CAST no one liked, and then you approach it like you’re adapting the fucking Holy Bible.”
Interesting perspective I hadn’t thought about before! Marvel does this too - Ant-Man and Spider-Man are both introduced as fans of the Avengers IIRC. Even Bond had this a bit and at least flipped it, with the bad CIA agent introduced as a fan of Bond (which is silly since he’s a fucking spy and his exploits shouldn’t…
I really, really feel like we should maybe stop digitally resurrecting dead actors and putting them in new movies so middle-aged nostalgia addicts can pretend like their parasocial relationships with fictional characters still have meaning and worth.
Like the choice to bring back Egon Spengler as a ghost.
Fine. As long as it’s hard sci-fi this time.
WTF is Starz lol
How do you know that’s not the intended effect? Maybe Reitman hates you personally.
Have you ever left home, or some other familiar place for a while, and then returned after a few years? The feeling you remember is almost always impossible to recapture. That feeling is as much about you as the place, and even if the place is the same (it isn’t) you’ve changed. The other people there have changed.…
