I like that.
I like that.
I’m not being sarcastic. “All due respect” is a polite way to subtly tell someone “Buckle up, I’m fixin to take you down a peg.”
I’m never the one to bring it up, but it seems like people just assume you’re on whatever is the current social media site du jour. Maybe it’s my mom that’s the biggest problem. “I messaged you on Facebook and you never responded.” Mom, I haven’t been on Facebook in over five years. TEXT MY PHONE.
I haven’t figured out how to use self deprecation in this instance, though. “Oh, hah, I don’t have any friends so I just gave up on it” sounds like it would lead to a pity party. Tips?
I don’t care what they think about me being on social media. I just don’t want to sound like a dick when they bring it up and I mention I’m not on it.
It’s a small pet peeve of mine when people misuse that... trope? Meme? Quote? Whatever. I hate it.
I’ll practice my smug closed-eyes-and-turned-up-nose expression for the next time this comes up in conversation.
Well then, if they don’t get it after this much time I don’t think they ever will. You may either have to lower your expectations or further limit contact in order to avoid the situation. Old dogs, new tricks, etc. Good luck.
This thing looks amazing, but I can’t justify spending SO MUCH MONEY on a backpack. I have no problem spending $30-40 on a deal-hunted backpack every few years. That affords me the luxury of a brand new pack, AND it allows me to adapt the new bag to suit my current needs. Yes, I would probably fall deeply in love with…

“Ah, ah, AH, HERE IT COMES!” Then you throw confetti.
Have you sat them down and explained exactly why that old name has so much baggage attached to it? They may be thinking “Oh it’s just a phase” or something like that, or they may genuinely be unaware of how important it is to you. I’ve found I rarely regret sincere heart-to-hearts when it’s something so important.
I work with audiovisual systems and I suggest unplugging any expensive gear including TVs, projectors, AV receivers, etc. to protect against power surges/thunderstorms while you’re gone. My company has several locations that have had thousands of dollars worth of equipment ruined by thunderstorms so far this summer.…
How do you tell someone you aren’t on any major social media platforms without coming off as a snob?
In person? “All due respect, you’re wrong. Here are a dozen reasons why.”
“In polite company when is it ok to acknowledge that it was you that, um, passed gas”
My question is: What changed? Why now? Is there some threat they’ve analyzed but aren’t sharing with us? Or is this just another joker in government trying to justify his job’s existence with a new program? “Boy, it’s been a while since I did any work, and people seem to be getting too comfortable with airport…
FYI there are some security concerns people have with the manufacturer’s TOS/EULA regarding data and video collection/storage. Read the comments and decide for yourself if it’s worth the risk. There also appears to be the ability to flash custom firmware to circumvent some of those issues (again, read the comments on…

I always try to consider both sides of a given situation, but this one seems to only have one side. He was restrained and, thus, not a danger to anyone. He was VASTLY outnumbered by the officers. He was disarmed, and accused of a low-level crime. I seriously don’t see any legitimate “full story” here other than that…
I’d like to add my voice as a white male gun owner: I feel frustrated any time I discuss gun control, but it mostly comes from others who own guns. I’m the “rare” one (who is actually in the majority) who supports universal background checks on all purchases, commercial or private. I also support gun storage laws to…
I think the problem is that these agents and many like them become jaded from dealing with this stuff too often. Yes, they have kits. Yes, they should have tested. No, they shouldn’t have allowed the alleged smuggler to handle evidence (what if he’d just dumped it on the floor?). But they probably saw it as a game of…
