I think it’s more that the Chinese car market was so new (only really coming on form in the last 10 years or so) coupled with a massive increase in personal wealth that there were millions of non-car owners buying cars for the first time. Now most people who can afford a car already have one, so the market is tapering…

It’s my 4th car, used for work only.  I get a car allowance and I could have either traded in a one of my current fleet (3 cars) and used that and my allowance to get something nice OR I could get a cheap car, keep everything I have now AND have it be covered by my allowance (mostly).
