Is it just me or does that garbage truck look like something that Torchinsky designed for his “cars that don’t exist from countries that don’t exist” series. Seriously, it looks like he drew it.

That was a lot of fun. We were glad we came. Hey here is an idea for next year if you repeat the event at the same location; why not use that huge screen in the main room to display a slideshow of the work? The end product was cool but it was a little cramped in that viewing area. Thanks for having us!
It may just be me but I think I am so habituated to the consistent wail of a wide open internal combustion engine that every time the tone of this thing drops under (regenerative?) breaking my ear tells my brain that its going slowly through the hairpins. My eyes on the other hand are telling my brain that’s its…
In the early 80's I drove a beater 1966 Chevelle with a 30" Grateful Dead “steal your face” red white and blue skull painted on the trunk. I was 18, had long hair and I got pulled over a lot. It was actually good training for a young driver; I learned never to have anything in my system when I drove because there was…
I was listening to a radio station once in the previous century (pre-internet) and the DJ put out a contest challenge; how many times in total does Robert Plant sing or say baby in all of the Led Zepplin songs on all of the Led Zep studio albums. The station was giving away a trip to someplace warm and they thought it…
I got my windshield broken that way once by a slab flying off the roof of an eighteen wheeler. I have always wondered if there were any laws on the books that would require truckers to clear their trailers. I have a close cousin who is a long haul trucker and I get that this would be close to impossible for a single…
Good list, but the first go to performance upgrade I always do on a used car is tires. Bang for your buck; driving feel for your money nothing beats good tires.
Aqua tread, I had them too, they were, not bad.
The second car I owned (first one that ran) was a ‘66 Chevelle coupe I bought in 1984 for a two hundred dollars. I was taking three lovely ladies to a semi formal party 50 miles from home and we got very (pre GPS) lost. One girl in the back seat started protesting that I had to find her a bathroom ASAP! After twenty…
The answer is always Miata. I thought myself to work on cars by getting intimate with my 92 Miata. Yes, its low to the ground, but other than that everything is easily accessible. That and the very extensive online community of owner/enthusiasts makes almost any job less daunting to take on.

I just saw more footage of the crash over at the BBC site (sorry, no way to cut and paste) It looks like there were plastic “jersey barriers” but they had not been filled with water so they just disintegrated when the car hit them. Im sure the spectators standing behind the red and white barrier felt safe, but it was…
This reminds me of projects that I start thinking I have a world beater of an idea, and a few days later my wife will come down to the basement and gently suggest that I come up for some air.
You are right Torch; you will never own one. When I was nineteen and living in my parents basement I became (briefly) obsessed with the idea of buying an old UPS truck and living in it. I wanted to leave it stock on the outside and modd it out inside for a sort of stealth RV. I did go as far as talking to a manager at…
I purchased a long wheel base black Transit Connect in November and I am absolutely loving it so far. I have kids but I also use the van to hall stuff for work. I also test drove a Nissan NV200 but the Ford had better brakes, steering, suspension -absolutly no contest. This week I did a six hour drive in heavy snow…
Curse you Audi; I want to keep hating you but your designers are good! This may be the first execution of the "big low outboard tire cooling scoop" trend in front end design that I have liked. I remember seeing it first on the Aston Martin One-77 but I imagine they lifted it from someone else. They are everywhere now,…
You know, I appreciate your being brave enough to write this. That black bumper vintage of MGB is what I grew up with. My fifth grade teacher bought one new in 1975, red convertible with a black interior. The car may not have been fast, but I am pretty sure she was. She took me out for pizza and ice cream a few times…
Where did all the Hummers go? Did their owners shrivel of embarrassment? In 2007 they were all over my affluent NY suburb but now I almost never see them. I suspect many were exported to South America.
Based on my experience with Mitsubishis of this decade (actually all decades) I would say that this is a one way ticket to 365 days a year of new and original electronic and mechanical troubleshooting decision trees. But hey, if that's your thing it beats sudoku and, well, PURPLE DASHBOARD!
No one has mentioned the lady bug floor mats. They are leading me to think this was a woman's ride. Think about that…on second thought don't.
