What most don’t know was that the Skyactive diesel motor introduced back in 2009 had a major design flaw that mandated the oil to be checked and/or changed every 1000km (621 miles) because of oil dilution with fuel.

Android head units have been doing this for years. In fact, more recent units can now just use your existing factory unit with the bluetooth and carplay unit hidden inside the dash and the remote screen mounted in another area. Just switch to AUX to use the carply/naiv/bluetooth, etc.

Here’s one that works with BMW

I’ll wait until I can buy a used one*

Want a mode of transportation that has no electronic frills?

I have a 20 year old TDI new beetle (can we call it “new” if it’s 20+ years old, lol?) that has power lock and windows. No backup camera, Bluetooth or any other tech. It even has a basic single DIN head unit. It was a basic model. So even the most basic will have power locks and windows, since that will be shared

Wow, someone is triggered...

You know, If Apple were to design a car - I would think it would look like the Ford concept.  The grill almost looks like an intake port for a PC...

Awesome! They can park this “Concept” next to all the other retro concepts that will never be built...

Note to those who have a “fill until it starts to drain” style transmissions -

The real test for sales at least is in year 2+ when the media blitz is over - will putting some cash on the hood like other domestic dealers do help sales?

And now that yard will sell those engine blocks for $200 each...

Now playing

Or, you know - just get the real deal (Yamaha V8). Slower but cool...

No more expensive?  WD sells USB 3.0 2TB portable HDDs for $54.00 (and $50 refurbished) - also known as 4x less than SSDs...

Local diesel owner here - 150,000 miles is “just broken in”

I also had a ‘13 passat TDI. It was trouble free for nearly 90k miles before it went back to VW because it had the TDI motor VW couldn’t fix, so they shortchanged the warranty. It was replaced with a 535D which has been equally reliable for over 80k miles. Less milage but double the torque.

GM models - usually cop versions (like the caprice/SS) have a display that shows idle hours.  Many patrol cars simply sit on the side of the road with the engine running for AC, and it’s not good for the car.  It’s actually better to find one that’s been driven hard on occasion than one that spent it’s entire life

You’re looking for a TDI beetle? I have one that I no longer daily. Unfortunately, since you passed on onefor $900, you may have a hard time finding one. Why? Because the parts are worth more than the sum.

14 billion? That’s cool, I guess? I mean, VW spent 33 billion just on FINES/penalties over the emissions scandal. I always joked that VW should have just told the EPA “Listen, we’ll buy Tesla and build electrics from now on, mmmkay? We good?”

The most important part of the announcement - that the price of the package is increasing by $2,000. For a system that’s NOT fully self-driving. The cost is now $10,000 for the package.
