“Do I want to fuck it?”

I thought the entire body of this post was just going to read:

Re: Kap’s quote.

I think this is a result of Ziggy Wilf fleecing the MN taxpayers for $1B so he could have a new stadium but I’m not sure how causality really works.

Soldier Field is in no way a 92-year-old stadium (not even a renovated one). There might be some 92-year-old columns in front of it, but there was basically a brand new stadium dropped inside the old facade (perhaps that contributed to it losing its historical status, as you also pointed out).

Your stance on renovations was kind of undermined by your specifically pointing out Soldier Field as an old stadium.

You do know that a spaceship was dropped into the old Soldier Field facade in 2003? And that came with a cost of $650M (in then-dollars), $400M of which the public ponied up for?

Sweet. And when I go to San Diego and pay a hotel tax so Spanos can shit in an even more guilded toilet, I’ll also be sure to dump a shit ton of tea into Mission Bay.

I like Bacca (that’s both statistically and by the eye). Not sure he’s ‘elite.’ He might be marginally better than Giroud (or the same within a bounded confidence region). But he’s also turning 30 in a week. So you’re unlikely to get 3 really good seasons out of him before age does the things that age does to a

There just aren’t that many elite striking options out around. There are maybe 10 of them in the top leagues in Europe and many of those are perfectly happy where they are and not likely to ever move (Messi, Suarez, Lewandowski, Agüero (probably)). So unless you want to part with £60M (or more) or get lucky and snatch

Pretty sure my first 4-5 teams all had Erik Bedard on them. I was with Bedard for more consecutive years than I’ve been with any woman.

Shame ND’s cockamamie agreement with the ACC doesn’t have Clemson headed to South Bend on a return trip this season.

In a couple of weeks I’ll go to an anniversary party and help dedicate a new facility. I am very proud to have been part of that legacy and competing in sports during college was maybe the best part of my collegiate experience.

This matches my club sport experience. We paid probably 85% of our costs out of pocket (our own pockets), and we had to go compete against varsity programs.

Our 7s team already has a couple of football converts on it and they are legit. Our poor showing in Rio was mostly down to bad luck, more specifically the upset loss to Argentina in the first group game.

Well let’s see, he grew up with a successful father and probably watched people throw themselves at dad so they could get work (be in as an actor or working the 2nd unit). So he’s probably highly suspicious of those type of people. The second he gets a modicum of fame he starts experiencing it himself firsthand. This

Has little to nothing to do with national interest. Think it was under John Major they made a deliberate decision to pour money into sports where they could be successful in a short time frame and where individuals could win multiple medals in the sport. I alluded to the former, wasn’t explicit about the latter.

The unfairness of college sports made it impossible for him to make any money directly off of being one of the most famous athletes in the world...

I wasn’t suggesting they are guilty of anything.

That and the government has poured like £500M into the sport the last 12-15 years or so. Basically they specifically identified cycling as a sport they could compete in despite not having much of a history because nobody else was prioritizing it and it didn’t require really specific skills that have to be developed
