Introducing Black Adam straight away means the movie would end in a generic “Grr! We’re not so different you and I!” and then a half hour superhero punch up.

Black Adam is an overused Captain Marvel villain. Everyone knows his true nemesis is Mister Mind.
Referring to Captain Marvel as Shazam is one if those things like referring to Frankenstein’s Monster as Frankenstein.
Yeah, there seems to be a bit of backlash to this casting already, but I can see it. Levi can cut a dashing figure.
Levi’s super charming and good with comedy, so I’m optimistic. Although still a bummer my ideal casting got too old for the part...
That’s actually a nice piece of casting, not that casting has really been the issue with recent DC movies.
Um....it’s part of feminism.
Hey, he didn’t kidnap and torture William so that makes him a good man!
Was anyone else bothered by the fact that the FBI agent wanted to compel a child (not to mention one whose MOTHER HAS JUST FREAKIN’ DIED!!!) to testify about his father and got upset when the father was against it? I don’t see it as a threat by Ollie but rather an appropriate parenting decision.
Pretty sure there is a difference between Marc Guggenheim and a fictional doofus.
In fairness, that might mean it was more than a namedrop.
I’m with you on Rene—he was, hands down, the best part of what I thought was a better than average episode. Particularly the banter in FBI agent’s office. Quentin’s facial expressions in reaction to Rene in the office were pretty good, too.
Well to be fair, Oliver did specifically mention that he is William’s only parent unlike JJ (formerly Sara, fuck you Barry) who has Lyla (although her job is pretty dangerous too).
Really it would have been ideal if Thea was still around but Digg was the only one available.
As a huge fan of Lyla, I agree, and I really don’t think they have ever been setting up Dinah and Dig romantically, they just as wounded warriors have a lot in common & he has been there for her & helped her transition through a difficult time & she wants to do the same for him.
I loved Rene asking Special Agent Junk Chain if she always knew she wanted to be an FBI agent, since he thought his daughter could do that, with what we know (I think) to be sincerity but she could only take as mockery.
I like Dinah’s Black Canary costume too. While she came off pretty rough with John, he was being pretty unreasonable and I don’t blame her. I saw an interesting interview with her on tvline today where she was denying that Dinah had any romantic interest in John (as some fans suspected last season, but this episode…
Still very not sure of the addition of a child, but I have to admit that the kid is doing a fairly good job with the acting.
This development would be much more exciting if Thea took up Green Arrow’s mantle!
Well, to be fair, the Civil War was about state’s rights… the uppermost right being the right to own and buy and sell other human beings as property. I live in south Louisiana and the human truck nuts protesting the removal of Confederate statues can suck it, those treasonous fuckers are coming down sooner or later.
But we must defend and honor our history! Specifically the history of the generation that grew up after the Civil War and thus never fought in it but who decided that maybe this whole slavery thing wasn’t such a bad idea and that the people who fought to keep it deserve the honor of being immortalized as statues in…
