The captain was up and pulling a phaser on her like two minutes later, though. Could be a sign that the “trained but not super-strong” version is a bit less effective.

He not arguing about anything, he just desperate to have argument.

She can do the Neck pinch ??? That is just bullsh-t!

Was this done throughout all of the show? These shots are from one sequence where she just got back from launching herself through space, killing somebody, blacking out, and jumping out of bed in the middle of getting treated for massive radiation sickness. Seems reasonable to use a dutch angle to show disorientation

I WAS excited by two non-white women in power, what a fun surprise. They were talking to each other about spaceships, power and battleplans, not boys! I’m left really rather seeing the 7 years preceding with Captain Phillipa, Michael and Saru. I’m going to resent the hell out of wherever the story goes from here, and

You caught me. I lied for multiple paragraphs because I wanted the attention. Bravo.

“There’s Nothing Particularly Magical about Vulcans Doing It”

Yes but the more important question is, how did Sarek get out of the dungeon WITHOUT using the wizard key?

Well... Data did. Also Odo on DS9 and Seven of Nine on Voyager. And Captain Archer on Enterprise, though that was another case of being under Vulcan influence. No unmodified human ever did it. Cmdr. Burnham is at very least Vulcan trained, from a very young age.

The A-number-1 frustrating thing about parsing fan responses over the years has always been that they want the same thing, that’s also simultaneously different.

What lense flare? I’ll give you some odd angles but very few.

That was pretty good. I would rank it as the second best Star Trek series premiere behind DS9.

Oh no! Something new! Can’t have that!

Also, have you seen Star Trek before? All the Klingons actual spoke Klingon. How much MORE Stark Trek could this get?

Hey, all a neck pinch takes is the proper training and discipline. It’s a skill, not a super power.

How is the fact that she can do the nerve pinch bull? Humans can do it and canonically have done it, there’s nothing particularly magical about Vulcans doing it.

you seem like a lot of fun at parties

Picard could do the neck pinch after mind melding with Sarek. Data and Odo could do it too.

Man, it is SO GOOD to have Star Trek back on television. I didn’t realize just how much I missed it until the start of the premiere and hearing all the technobabble, and figuring out the timeline re: the Klingons, and all that good stuff.

And even then, in order to get the maximum effect out of him, you have to demote him back to captain.

If nothing else, the show understands the most important rule of Starfleet: anybody above the rank of captain is completely useless.
