I loved the looks of these but yeah the performance wasn’t there to back it up. My now-husband-then-boyfriend had a ‘96 Elantra with the same guts and it was perfectly fine but nothing special. Strangely it broke down a LOT less than my ‘99 Elantra.

Would you expect to see a lot of economy cars from 30 years ago on the road? Honestly?
It honestly makes me wonder if this person has ever set foot in one.
Not that it was an amazing engine but the Mitsu 3.0 in a car that small was an absolute hoot even with the 4 speed auto. The Shadow ES/Duster did what it came to do, which was to make an entertaining car for very little money. I also think they did a great job making it look fresh after all the years, particularly in…
Oh don’t get me wrong it’s not a fast car, but the instant torque makes a big difference. My gen2 is a lot faster period than my gen1 was, but even the old one felt quick at lower speeds.
It didn’t feel slow though. Seat of your pants felt like a rocket ship at lower speeds. It was highway passing where it kind of wheezed out.
The Volt comment is the dumbest thing I’ve read here in a while. People who own or have owned one are basically rabid about them. The only mistakes were that GM didn’t use the Voltec system in other body styles and that they gave up on it when they did.
I imagine she’ll see actual consequences for it around the time the Titanic arrives in New York.
You could get a brand new, absolutely loaded Chevy Trax for less than your budget. The only thing it wouldn’t have is leather seating but it would be heated. The old ones were a total pile but the new ones have been getting rave reviews and look great IMO. If I needed a car it would be my first test drive. No CVTs…
LOL @ vandalism. Also LOL that any cop is going to give a singular shit about someone putting a cone on the hood of a car.
What percentage of her portfolio is commercial real estate? Seems relevant.
“If you wanted to splurge a bit and add things like a sunroof, leather seats, a CD player and ABS you’d still only be at $25,074. Today’s automakers would never make something with so many features for so cheap.”
“This doesn’t fit my needs precisely so obviously this is good for nobody.”
Yes, absolutely.
The seats in my ‘99 Escort were torture devices designed by satan. I liked most things about that car but damn, the seats were terrible for anything over 2 hours.
Watch the whole movie! It’s amazing.
Open season on the LA freeway!
Yeah. I don’t want it to be this, but it is.
Wow, second comment and it’s straight to being an asshole. Bravo.
Can you even get parts for a Suzuki anymore? Seems like you’d be trashing the car pretty soon because I bet you can’t fix it.
