What’s especially cool about this is that Perez is only running for DNC chair because the more logical office for him to seek, Governor of Maryland, his home state, is considered by the Democratic establishment an “unwinnable” race because of the popularity of GOP governor Larry Hogan.

They also need to tone down the moral arguments. The middle of the country is ready for change. They need to start explaining how little the GOP has really done for the middle of the country. Farmers need NAFTA and trade deals. Mexico is set to destroy our corn exports by switching to South American imports.

Never underestimate the greatness of water aerobics classes! You’ll become more comfortable in the water without having to put your head under, and you get to hang out with sassy older ladies. Win-win.

Cardio doesn’t translate at all from land to pool, unfortunately. The only way you’ll get better at swimming is to actually do it. The good news is that if you’re in shape in the pool, you’ll have good cardio/endurance outside of the pool. Bit of a one-way transfer only.

Whenever I see Mike Phelps swimming via one of those underwater shots and his body is undulating like an organic sine wave, I don’t think about his technique, the hours of practice, or any physical anomalies that might give him an advantage over his peers. I dabbled with getting in shape for a few years before realizing that achieving real results requires real effort. Running farther and harder and pushing myself in the pool made all the difference. There's no substitute for cardiovascular fitness.

Corollary to this: a lot of the people that say "my parents beat me and I turned out great" are not such wonderful poster children for that theory as they seem to imagine.
