The Merkur was actually sold in Europe as the Ford Sierra XR4Ti, starting in ‘82....the SVO Mustang didn’t start production until ‘84...but that’s so close, either is possible.

I always suspected the XR4Ti was the source for the strange double spoiler used on the SVO Mustangs.
I live in Knoxville, TN...a few weeks ago, we were all surprised when the speed limits were RAISED on several stretches of Interstate...the DOT said that the majority of drivers were driving at those speeds anyway....
Mine was a ‘64 Galaxie 500XL, Pagoda Green with a black interior..I still miss that car.
Nice work....in one short, concise paragraph, you described the issue that’s been dogging GM for 50 years now.
I was fortunate back in those days...as a kid, our family cars were a ‘57 Chevy two-door post that dad had hot-rodded, (11.20 quarter-mile times), and a ‘67 SS/RS Camaro...so I got educated early.
I wouldn’t be too hard on Dodge about the stodgy styling...at least those didn’t have under engineered front suspensions that promoted ball joint failures from a possibility to a likelihood.
Looks are one thing...but if you’ve ever driven a Mustang II....

All I kept thinking of was Wile E Coyote...
Within 3-5 years, all that will remain of Chrysler will be Ram trucks, and Jeep.
All you had to do was drive one a bit....or try to maintain one that was driven regularly.
The problem is one of the customer base, and perception.
Since you’ve pulled the 120v system in favor of a solar charging system, I’d be tempted to set up a charging system that keeps the batteries charged from the towing vehicle while you’re driving, so you’re fully topped off when you arrive at your campsite...good insurance against cloudy weather keeping you from having…
Considering the abominations I see being made these days for “non-enthusiasts”, yours might be one of the strongest recommendations I’ve read for buying a Flex.
