I’m not even sure Bad Lorca is ‘dead’. I mean, sure, he was stabbed and kicked out into space and we saw his body disintegrate... but he was kicked into the spore nexus power core. You know, that thing which connects all things in time/space/dimensions which we’ve already seen human consciences trapped in.

I think that was the point. The Federation is in a state of “dire despair.”

I guess L’Rell had always understood that she would lose Voq, but it’s still a shame she seems to be pretty cool with what happened.

Seriously, this is a letdown. I thought it looked cool and was wondering what exactly it meant... and apparently, the director himself does not know what its supposed to mean? All he can do is give us his interpretation? Goddamnit, Rian Johnson. You had one job!

The problem is that Star Trek *IS* optimism made manifest.

To accept the premise that they’ve “abandoned that” would be to believe that the producers think that anything Lorca’s done to this point is a good thing.

I have to disagree in that I think TLJ treated most of its characters as pieces to place in service of plot devices.

You are soooo reaching. Most people are pissed about ST and SW for different reasons.

I think Star Trek Discovery and The Last Jedi took huge leaps forward in that they treat the characters like human beings and not archetypes.

I have no problem with Rey’s parents being nobody, just that it was done in a way that highlighted the fact that there was no overall storyline/plan/arc of the movies and made the two movies feel very disconnected.

Wait, is Johnson really saying that Abrams did not decide who her parents were when writing the Force Awakens, and just left that open?

I’ve always thought of the Mirror Universe as “just for fun,” but...honestly, this take on it is really effective for me. It’s the first time it’s truly seemed horrible.

Which is bullshit

And you had to put the spoiler in the headline, right?
The emperor reveal was the big cliffhanger of that episode, and of course, io9 does not give a shit about viewers who are behind. Uh. Fuck you guys.

Thanks for the spoiler

Can we talk a moment about how Disney needs more practical story telling? I mean, not killing off an actress who won’t be back for filming of the next episode isn’t helping their cause any — especially when a decent replacement that would play off Poe decently was there — and the actress is probably a lot more

Shhhhh. Disney can do no wrong. The last jedi is a masterpiece. /s

Disney needs a more coherent story telling plan

Just another example of why Disney needs a more coherent story telling plan between these movies. I know they will likely play a big part in Episode 9, but there were so many plot threads from 7 that Johnson just didn’t give a shit about.
