Holy crap. Frederick Douglas was black??

I'll just copy and paste, since there is a point:

The article's logic is fallacious. The author wrote a piece about Apple employee misbehavior; he got responses from similarly misbehaving Apple employees. And from that unrepresentative sample, discerned a "pattern of internal havoc."

If you're not high, drunk, or completely checked out emotionally and intellectually while working retail, you're not working retail.

Eh, I've already been called a reverse racist, like, 9 times today.

Sometimes a token in the service of the social progress of a people is better than no token at all.

No Latinos in southern California always confounded me.

Now if I really wanted to offend the people who think I'm some sort of reverse racist (i.e. 90% of the comments below), I'd say something like:

Now Jubal was the best black character Joss ever wrote!! Fuck it. He was one of the best characters he ever wrote. Forget the black part. It's a shame he popped up in the last episode ever. Had he become the big bad for the whole show, I think I would have liked that.

I'm brown. I just want to see people like me on TV. What the hell is so racist about that?

I'd just like to see more people who look like me on TV. Especially from someone whose work I admire so much. But right now, Latinos make up 3% of the characters on TV, even though we're 13% of the population. In an ideal world, we can say "Let's be color blind!" But that's not reality, and that's not how I'm

Pointing to the casting of Asians as being representative of minority representation is somewhat disingenuous. I'm not saying it's right, but here in America, Asians have, institutionally, been denied the somewhat protected status we have afforded to African-Americans and Latinos. The NY Time's has an excellent

What African-American characters were in the first batch of casting for Buffy or Angel? Zero. Gunn was added later. So SHIELD is the third show of five without an African-American. Dollhouse had 1. Firefly had 2.

That's fine. I knew the Whedonites would be out in his defense. It doesn't change the way the majority of the casting goes.

947.

Everything you're saying is true.

Speaking of looking for issues: "not comfortable writing for people of color" does not equate with "racist" or "playing the race card." And I will agree the problem goes beyond Joss.

Maybe you're right. Or maybe it's just that I expect more from him. After all, he also gave us gay Willow and created a truly loving relationship between her and Tara.

It irritates me more than I'd care to admit, but the casting on S.H.I.E.L.D. is just so white. Yes, Ming-Na is Asian. And yes, occasionally Joss gives us a Kendra or a Zoe or a Shepherd Book. And God bless him for pretty much creating the modern strong female buttkicker as a lead character.
