I still have my TDI wagon and actually see quite a few on the roads here. Might be quite rare in the future. Haven’t yet heard about the fix though!

I saw the same at interbike in Las Vegas. But the difference was that their area prohibited photographs.
No, it is not. Please don’t come here! (I just biked to work, and it was 58 degrees at 6 a.m.)
Drive a manual A4 TDI through back roads of Austria then you will be hooked!
Well said. I wonder how many of those cars & crashes involve mustangs, etc with auto gear boxes compared to those with manuals.
Good point. But please consider that an M1 tank has an auto, but it is certainly doesn’t mean that I need or want one my car. Especially one that I drive for fun. Who needs the weight and complexity? (Isn’t this Jalopnik, or Trucking today?)
True story - car rental in Europe. Good -the car is an A4. The bad - CVT w/ auto stop & start. It drove me nuts shutting off while going from D to R during parking. The worst was yielding/stopping whilst at a traffic circle. Sometimes instant is not fast enough.
I prefer not to follow the heard, thank you! My entertainment is the three pedals and the stick, and not the so called “infotainment” systems espoused in new cars. I commute bike, and certainly don’t mind rowing the gears come the weekend!
Sure, and you mileage may vary... my wife’s ‘01 VW Golf has 155K mi on original clutch. Meanwhile, the our newer VW with DSG (Tiptronic) requires a $400 service every 30-40K miles. I prefer that manual any day!
Keep on dreaming! This from a company that can’t be bothered to put a stick in one. A diesel? Not in this country. We don’t deserve it!
I will believe it when I see it. There have been just too many stories about this.
Shhhhh!
Nice! I hope you got a chance to explore some So Cal back roads before heading back home!
Just a reminder: Subaru’s only manual transmission car in the US is the Forester.
Thanks for the reminder. I am getting some at next visit. But never a Chinese jack again. Saving up for AC jack. Cheaper then the deductible at the ER!
And all are automatics!
How discouraging. One more think to ask the dealer. I have used well established independents in the past with good success, and will likely continue to do so.
In the name of knuckles everywhere, have some liquid wrench on hand before starting.
I would agree. Location is Sunrise Highway (S2) San Diego.
Thanks for mentioning the suspension. Aslo, kind of hard to give up all that torque. There really is nothing quite like a TDI. I am eagerly awaiting to find out how the fix will hurt performance. Also, I suspect that TDIs will become very rare in short order.
