THANK YOU, MASTER OF THE OBVIOUS! WILL MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW YOUR SAGE ADVICE FROM NOW ON! WITHOUT YOU, WE ARE NOTHING! AHHHHHHH!

I actually thought of one more thing I forgot in my original response. Sometimes when white women come in and say "I suffer from sexism too, but you have it worse" it comes across as a pre-emptive way of squirming out of white privilege, or distancing yourself from the 'bad' white people without acknowledging how you

I can only speak for myself, but I also don't think it's any particular comment that annoys people as much as what they signify in the aggregate. I think PoC (all but the most hardcore racial separatists) are happy to have white allies and recognize we need them to combat racism. It's just that we seem to have

I assume, then, you don't support ever using the word "will" used in headlines then? A headline saying "Sun will rise tomorrow morning" is factually inaccurate. Journalists are not soothsayers, the sun could explode before then.

Thank you for understanding that. I was just trying to empathize. I see a lot of comments about how "solidarity is for white women" or "feminism is only for white women". I dont believe that at all, but the narrative favors white women for sure. I was really trying to point out that as a white woman I recognize sexism

Those comments can be super annoying, but I would take that versus the alternative(i.e., not empathizing at all), at least in this case this person was trying to empathize, no one can know what another person's struggle is, all we can do is empathize and be aware of the differences and keep in perspective.

She never realized it was happening to her until it was too late.

Did you get all of that out of your system?

so,woc of color don't know what white women go through concerning sexism? mainstream feminism consists of nothing but white women's narratives.

I wish I could star your comment a thousand times. People should know that this is largely our (the United States) fault.

Now playing

It's only been like this since the end of the 70s, when instability led to the 1979 Revolution and the rise to power of Ayatollah Khomeni. Pre-Revolution, Iran was a very culturally vibrant place. There was pop music, rock music, even types of what we'd call psych-rock now. The Iran of the last 35 years is a lot

It is not considered drastic for those who have a genetic predisposition (such as myself). It is generally seen as a recommended preventative measure.

I think you might be confusing two different things.

Seriously? That was my point. As a white woman I don't deal with racism, just sexism. A lot of the stereotypes in this article are rooted in sexism, so all women face them. Then you add on the racism such as being "an angry black woman". I was acknowledging that it was different and it sucks. You dont need to tell me

"Ms. Rhimes chose a performer who is older, darker-skinned and less classically beautiful than Ms. Washington, or for that matter Halle Berry."

The only person who is angry, ALL THE TIME, is Mellie. Who is white. Super duper white.

When Alessandra Stanley writes her autobiography, it should be called "How to Make a Black Woman Angry."

Dating Chris Martin I can understand. But knowing all the lyrics to Coldplay songs? Some things are unforgivable....

can't believe I'm siding with Miley, but flag desecration laws are offensive and wrong.

Using the phrase "bringing up the race card" as this cop did isn't even a red flag warning of racism. It's a huge, flashing neon sign that says "THIS IS ABOUT RACE."
