As an engineer that specializes in aircraft tires, you would NOT want to have solid tires on something moving that fast. Also, I can’t find good pictures, and I can’t tell just for the wheels whether those are aircraft tires or not.

I’ve worked in Germany a ton over the past 12 years (pharmaceutical manufacturing development). Germany is interesting because they have an incredibly skilled labor pool. But they aren’t particularly fast in many cases. Once the kinks are ironed out however, I’d bet that this plant eventually be a crown jewel.…

Not trying to be callous about the man’s passing, but I’m guessing there aren’t exactly 300mph rated semi truck tires out there. I would be curious what kind of tires the truck used; this failure might have been inevitable.

You have to read between the lines. It’s Alexa enabled, meaning they have a deal with Amazon, who probably wouldn’t let them also use Google or Apple.

The problem is that today’s cars are completely different shaped than yesterday’s. There are new crumble zones, more safety tests, more safety equipment etc, in today’s cars. (This is why when GM tried to make a modern 67 Camaro it ends up looking like a cheap hot-wheels knockoff of a Camaro.)

Volvo has been knocking it out of the park for a while now. The newest V60/V90 are some of the best looking wagons ever made, the XC90 is stunning and was ahead of its time when the current one debuted, and the Polestar 1 is gorgeous as well. Their interior game is also excellent.
