My sister briefly had a Pacer back in the day. I suspect that most Jalopnik readers aren’t old enough to have driven these cars and don’t realize just how bad almost all cars from the Big 3 were back then.

Mercedes, BMW and other companies have had GPS-based gear selector for about 8 years:

The system uses cameras and radar to observe the road and traffic ahead. The data is analyzed to map elevation, curves, gradient, and traffic conditions, and then shoved into an “artificial intelligent algorithm” which will help the transmission choose the appropriate gear before it is needed.

Honestly, that doesn’t look too bad. I’d drive it.
