The difference is the people behind Watergate were actually pretty smart and knew how to try and cover their tracks, so it took a while for the necessary evidence to come out. If Nixon hadn’t made the tapes, the odds are he would have not had to resign.

The way everything is set up is so fucked. Only Congress can convict Trump of a crime and remove him from office, but many of the top Republicans are complicit in this so they won’t do anything because it would be signing their own death warrants.
