As someone that read the book, I glad most of the book as changed in the movie. There are a lot of things in the book that wouldn’t work or would be boring to watch.

Yeah, I don’t get the hate either. I found the book to be a fun read and the movie effects were beautiful and at the heart, it is a cautionary tale about simulated reality, geek culture and nostalgia.
