I bought a questionable ‘93 XJ Cherokee in 2005 when I moved to Maui with a few friends, very little money, and no plan. It had 160k+ miles on it, and felt like it; but it was reliable, the 4wd worked, and it got us everywhere we wanted to go. It had the 2.5L four cylinder and a 5 speed manual.

Testing the water... I know what I have... No lowballers... all the same, right?

It is definitely a niche, and low volume to be sure. I think it’s more than tens, but it can’t be that much. He’s semi-retired, made his money elsewhere, so it’s basically a hobby.

Fun fact: I know a guy who is building a Model T snowmobile right now, and also know the guy who holds the patent to produce the tracks for those. No doubt he has one or two of his own; but his job is to produce the tracks and other parts that make those possible.

That is awesome, and I like the second mirror too. The guy in the video nailed it - it’s to look at the kids. My rearview mirror has been tilted halfway down for 5 years now - if I slouch a little I get a full rear view, if I stretch up a little I can see the kids.

It was pretty awesome. If they hadn’t posted videos, they probably could have gotten away with it, but sharing it was part of the fun I think...

I used to do this a lot in the middle of nowhere where the snow was beautiful powder on the roadside for miles on end. Every once in a while you’d have to jump over a driveway!

I did this a lot in college, in upstate NY far from the reaches of civilization. Once we were doing this in a state park, where the sides of the road were lovely powder snow, for miles on end. I was skiing behind my car when a Park Ranger passed us going the other way... so we stopped before he even had a chance to

Those guys are friends of mine, and they were well-prepared. The skier was wearing a thick wetsuit, they had people in kayaks and on the shore to help if necessary, the driver had lots of experience over water, and the skier was a 30+ year old lifetime waterskier who skied competitively in college at a high level.

I have two now, actually. The crazy bright one is a Nite Rider Lumina Pro 1400 Race. The “race” only means that the battery pack is bigger, for like a 3+hour runtime even at full brightness. I typically ride about 2hrs at night, so I figure that’s big buffer, because around here, I ride up mountains (slowly) so I use

Couldn’t agree more; I use one often, and in fact, I have a ridiculously bright one that I use for mountain biking at night - it’s quite literally brighter than the headlights on my ‘61 Ford truck. Most of the time, though, I use a simple one just to get a spot of bright light right where I need it most. I’ll still

I’ve been on a cruise ship that was caught between storm systems between Bermuda and NYC. The announcements described “40 foot seas with winds gusting to around 75 knots” and we weren’t allowed on the deck shortly after I took the pics below.

The whole statement is limp, which is of course not surprising. Also, “...will be working with the Membership (Homeowners)...” - does it really need to be clarified who the “members” of an HOA are? In a letter to those members?

Nissan Frontier, because it never changes.

Exactly like that. You pay a “membership fee” up front in order to receive all the benefits of the Inner Circle. The fee is just $1.5M USD but you get an RSR as a new-member gift.

It’s a fascinating race. I’m a little bit of a rally fan, so I like the “cars” best, probably. But the trucks are amazing, and great to watch too.

Interesting, I didn’t know that. I actually only started following the race about 4 years ago when I discovered the great coverage on Eurosport... I’ve been hooked ever since.

Used to be Paris-to-Dakar, literally. Now it’s the Dakar but it’s held in various parts of South America (different every year) largely because of political instability along the original route.

I will literally use my E46 as a snowplow, because it’s lower than our other cars and has snow tires. If we get more than 6" of snow, I’ll drive it out of the driveway first to clear it out a little, before attempting it in our other non-snow-tire-clad vehicles. If I could fashion a simple plastic plow for the front

You could buy THREE of these for that kind of money. Blue German wagon and this one’s even a manual.
