I agree pretty much with everything. I guess I felt there wasn’t consistent quality control, possibly due to the massive early season episode count (i think they were like 24 eps a season, but I’m too lazy to google that).

Ummm. These are FAR from copies. This is pretty standard influence/referential treatment. Nothing remotely revolting about it. God forbid we sound like what influences us. 

I agree with the bezel & glare reduction, but your other propositions dont seem like universal selling points to me.

I think it was because it was written by people who actually grew up on games, rather than boomers or dramatists who were like “these games are so hip! but how can we mangle them into a proper film?”

It’s crazy this all was in season 1! I would have sworn the dragon birth, death of Drogo lasted into season 2 at least. He’s such a big character it’s hard to believe he was only in one season.
