In all seriousness, is it a UAW thing? I know some, but not all cars made by GM come from UAW plants and fall into the same sort of nonsense

You actually have to shout “Safe!” for immunity to kick in. If you cop tags you before you get to the garage, you are it.

and most of that was left out of Lawrence’s summary, the fact he was charged and convicted at all. Thats what i was confused about.

That definition applies to the legal process, which is a shared fiction that controls the behavior of the State and citizens, not factual existence. (Looks around) Nope - no one here is on a jury in a courtroom, so that definition is inapplicable.

Yes. This is the system working exactly as it’s supposed to on an edge case. How idiotic to frame this as somehow evil police. Author is a tool.

NO!

BOTH, actually. More precedent for the cop to act hastily, and dumbasses who don’t understand the nuances of this will think “if I can make it home I’m free and clear” - so put lots of lives in danger with yet more high speed pursuits.

Presumably he would not have been convicted of drunk driving by a trial judge, then had that ruling confirmed by a state appeals court if he was not actually drunk. And you can be damned sure that anyone who can pursue a case like this all the way to the Supreme Court is someone who can afford *damned good* legal

Key word “unreasonable”. Things aren’t unreasonable until a judge rules it is. The cop was working with plenty of precedent on his side. Note that two trial judges AND the state court of appeals agreed with him. So I would assume that in CA this was pretty well settled law. It is the Supreme’s role to review this sort

Seems like we’re missing alot of the story here, was the guy actually drunk beyond the legal limit?

Much law is a matter of interpretation, not black letter. Especially in a case like this. He’s going to weasel out of a drunk driving charge on a very technical technicality. That sure makes me feel safer on the road. I assume they will still nail him for fleeing or alluding.

So if I can make it to my garage, I’m safe!

Yeah, if anything, it’s the other way around: we’ve been spending so much money in tobacco for so long, at some point the industry as a whole just didn’t know what to do with all the money anymore and started a bad F1 sponsorship habit, and it got so bad they’ve been trying to kick it for years.

I just think he’s trying to play mind games over public channels.

I don’t know anyone who started smoking because of racing sponsorship.

Had they listened to Valtteri, they probably would have had both on podiums and held back RBR in the Constructor’s, though.

Checo clearly has learned from how RBR treated Ricciardo, Gasly and Albon, and how his own experience with Racing Point proves that being fast isn't everything. A lot of confidence, a lot of focus on the team and aiming for podiums without undercutting Max. You can even tell from his social media posts where he’s

Seriously, it’s nice to see him get pissed about something other than blatant team disrespect.  Maybe he still cares on some level, a few of these Sundays it looked like he was just driving around out there for no special reason.

One of the better French Grand Prix in recent years, eh?

That mid section of the race, when Hamilton and Bottas were chasing max, screwed up the tires of all 3 of them. Perfect call to pit max and let Perez drive on. Mercedes should have pitted one of the 2 to copy max’s strategy. Perez was now cruising behind them preventing them from slowing down to much while max could
